Since 1986, the FCSS has been collecting food from the community to prepare hampers for those in our community who are in need during the Christmas season. Christmas Hampers include food as well as small gifts for the children.
If you are new in town, stop in today and see what Two Hills has to offer. Our Newcomer Welcome Centre staffed by FCSS and the ALC are here to help you get settled.
With the loss of the Two Hills Chronicle, there has been a significant effort to keep the community informed of events. One way FCSS has been able to help has been through the community newsletter that you will find either in your town water bill or county gas bill. If you have any events or activities you would like advertised in the community newsletter please contact our office for more details.
ROOTS OF EMPATHY
Roots of Empathy is a classroom based program that has shown significant effect in reducing levels of aggression among school children. A neighborhood infant and parent visit the classroom on a regular basis over the school year. This lays the foundation for more safe and caring classrooms, helping the children become more competent in understanding their own feelings and the feelings of others (empathy) and are therefore less likely to physically, psychologically and emotionally hurt each other through bullying and other cruelties.
By definition, emergencies happen when we don't expect them, and often when families are not together. Suddenly, you need to think about your kids at school or elderly parents across town. If phones don't work, or some neighbourhoods aren't accessible, what will you do?
Having a family emergency plan will save time and make real situations less stressful. Click here to read more and get a plan together for you and your family.
HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
Every year we partner with Police, Fire and Ambulance services in Two Hills as well as schools and local businesses to collect food and toys for our FCSS Christmas Hampers. This happens in early December and is done via a drive through town with the emergency vehicles lit up in the spirit of the season. Santa usually makes a special appearance to spread good cheer amongst the participants.
